India vs Australia so early in the tournament....!! :-(
Both the teams would not have expected the match so early in the tournament. Any it is there now. We need to focus on how to defeat the mighty Indians in their home ground. Ahmadabad is a kind of venue where we have seen big scores, so i think it will be a batsmen favored pitch this time also. So what really matters is the depth of the Australian batting line up. Apart from Watson, Had-din and Clark no one have produced a good innings so far in the tournament, and remember that these innings were played against the minnow teams of the world cup ( Australia didn't bat against SL). The batting remains a major concern in the current Australian team. Even if we have the depth upto Steve Smith in the batting, no one flared to excellence since now. Mainly Ponting and White were the biggest flops in the line up. Even against the minnow teams they couldn't adjust making a half century.
I still prefer a David Hussey over Cameroon White even though he has not played matches. The inclusion of Mike Hussey was crucial as the left hander could make a considerable change in the middle overs of the batting. It is very disappointing teht Ponting has not scored 100 runs in his five matches. Lets all hope that Ponting will use all his experience into play once he gets the bat aginst the Indians.
Batting:
Haddin and Watson should open the innings and make good impact that is around 70-80 runs in the first partnership. Even if they make 80 in the initial 17-18 overs without losing a wicket it would be huge advantage for the team. Ponting can come in later with clarke and hussry to play the middle overs upto the 40 th at least. David hussey's power hitting with Steve Smiths confident stroke play can make a huge impact in the slog overs. Everything depends on the initial two parterships. And a score closer to 300 will lift the chances of winning the match. If we bat first and score only around 250, i am over confident that we will never dethrone the Indian batting. Indian batting is extremely strong in the initial stage. Believe me if they are batting first there is a 95% probability that one of the Indian batsmen score a century. Castling the strong Indian batting would be really hard since they have the advantage of the "HOME" match. Considering that Kohli, Yuvaraj, Tendulkar all made centuary and none of the Australian made a century the chances and the probability of the batting strength lies in favour of India.
Bowling
The trio pace has clicked good so far is the only area where we can boast. The three players are in good form and have taken more than 10 wickets gives us a big advantage. very happy to see the rusty Lee coming in good touch against Pakistan. But if Tait also came good with some yorkers at least against the minnow Kenyans i would have been very happy. Watson remains an asset in the team as always. The spin duo Kreja and Smith should be used accordingly so that they dont go for more runs. indian bowling is very weak except for Zaheer Kahn. But the last match were Ashwin came back with Yuvaraj also in form the bowling department stays ahead. Even though in the bowling we have a definite edge iam not sure how much it will make an impact if our batting is below ordinary.
"Australia is in huge pressure"...!!! A fan of australian team in India commented to me. I feel it very true since they played the minnows initially the world didnt know that. Pakistan has ripped apart the pressured Australia and they blew up to that easily. the advantage lies with india as they play home match and is in good form. So beating India would be really difficult and if we do that easily we could march on to win the World Cup this time also. Team Australia should bowl first bowl out India around 200 and not more than 250. This could be the best possibility of defeating india in Ahmedabad. Another possibility is that they bat first and score around 300 and get Indian wickets initially itself. India has the potential to grow hard untill the the 7th man Yousuf in the crease. Cruciall Indian wickets would be Tendulkar, Sehwag and Yuvaraj. Any way we rest all our hope on the pace trio. Hope that Tait will come good with his yorkers from the begining stage itself. mitchell also need to go hard with bat and ball.
The only pscho. advantage that we have is that India has never beat Australia in WC match since 1987. The unbeaten run ended and another defeat could end the early exit of once dynamites of the World cricket. Experts rule the end of Australian cricket dominance by the thursday match. Hope that it will not happen...
