My experiences in a factory !!!

During my shift operations in my company (MRF Ltd.), I have come across few situations which made me in ethical dilemma. I recall one such situation happened in a night shift. During my department rounds I heard an air leak whistle from one Of air compressor units. Along with my maintenance mechanic, I made an inspection and found it in a critical stage. The machine should be stopped immediately due to safety reasons. But such an action will make a delay in the production. I was told by my reporting officer not to make any decisions which make delay in production.

I was in a dilemma. But immediately I took the decision to take up maintenance and issued a stop notice to the production department. Soon protests came from the production department and the shift foreman. Once we opened the bottle of the compressor, I found water leaks in compressor which resulted in blockage of air tubes. The compressed air produced at 150cfm was trapped which resulted in blowing of the safety valve. If unattended it would have resulted in bursting of the tubes resulting in damages or injuries if the operator is near by. I felt very proud once I finished the maintenance and issued a production clearance.

The next morning I was congratulated by the plant manager and other officials for my smart work. I have learned from this experience as there should be no compromise on safety in a factory. Another principle is that to attend each and every problem and investigate on it however small it may be.
