India has its largest ever contingent for the London Olympics this time. Though the chances of making it to the top 30 may look like impossible, there is a good chance that India bags medals more than ever before. Considering India's performance in the last 10-20 years, its in the Beijing Olympics India have managed more than a single medal ( a gold and 2 Bronze medals). Today when the extravaganza starts in a few hours from now we can hope that the Yellow medals would be atleast 2or 3 and few other medals. According to my calculations India may bag at least a Gold medal in Shooting and Boxing. All together shooting and Boxing should give us 4-5 medals this time. All others combined may produce 2-3 medals more. So India could bag 7-8 medals this time which would be the largest ever.
In this article i would list the number of Participation from India for the Olympics and medal prospect
In this article i would list the number of Participation from India for the Olympics and medal prospect
The Indian contingent comprises of 58 men and 23 women.
Athletics
1) Womens Discuss throw india represents Krishna Poonia and Seema antil (the former may make it to the finals but no medal expected )
2) Mens Discuss throw Vikas Gowda the Indian American ( don't expect anything more than Semifinals)
3) Womens 800 meters Tintu Looka the young Keralite ( Semifinals or finals - no medal )
4) Womens Triple jump we represent Mayookha Johny ( no medals )
5) Mens Shot Put Omprakash Karhana (Dont even think of anything other than qualifying rounds)
6) 20 KM Walk we have 3 athletes Babubhai Panocha, Gurmeeth Singh and Irfan Kolothum thodi( no medals)
7) Triple jump Men the Kerla jumper Ranjith Maheswari (no medal expected)
8) Martahthon India fields Ram Singh Yadav ( not a medal prospect )
9) 3000 meter Steeple chase we have Sudha Singh ( no medal )
So in athletics we have a good sum of athletes competing but the quality of Indian athletics has not improved from th epast 30-40 years. I feel no one will be close enough to the mark which PT USHA maanged in Los Angels. Another shameful fact is that india always had Mens and Womens relay time representing and getting to the further rounds. It degraded from the last 10 yeas and its a reality that India doesnt have a relay team for the Olympics. Pity Indian athletics need to improve more means a steep mountain to climb
